Note: the hotel location for the 600k is in Lehi, not Saratoga Springs, so there are two different start locations depending on whether the 600k is offered. I will keep this page updated with the correct routes for the current year.

200.4 km (124.5 miles) with 4,410 feet of cumulative elevation gain.

Introduction This loop route starts in Saratoga Springs, which halfway between Salt Lake City and Provo, on the NW corner of Utah Lake. The route travels west into the Great Basin or “west desert” of Utah. It travels nearby, or on the Pony Express trail and past the Camp Floyd/Stagecoach Inn State Park in Fairfield. It then climbs up to Eureka and makes a fast descent into Utah Valley before taking some 35 miles of rollers, along the west side of Utah Lake back to the start. On this same day will be an out-and-back 130km Populaire that shares the same route, so riders can go together for part of the morning.
Start & Finish Location Walmart in Saratoga Springs, 136 Utah 73 (N.W. corner of Redwood Rd & Lehi Main St). From the SLC, take 2100 North / SR-85 (North of Lehi) off I-15 & go west to the junction of Redwood Rd/SR-68 and then head south to Saratoga Springs.
From Provo or southern Utah, travel north on I-15 and take exit 278 onto SR-145/Pioneer Crossing & go west. Then right onto SR-68/Redwood Rd & proceed north about a mile.
Start Time Sign in at 07:00 and a mass start at 07:30 with brief announcements right beforehand. If you did not preregister, please come early and pay with a check (or exact change in cash). Since I will also be riding with the group, I cannot wait for late comers (I will leave your brevet card on my windshield if you notify me). This event will be held rain or shine.
Backroads of the Great Basin 300 — RWGPS Link — 300km Brevet (updated 2025)
301.4 km (187.3 miles) with 5,670 feet of cumulative elevation gain.
ACP sanctioned time limit: 20 hours. RUSA route # 1215.
Introduction These routes start in Lehi, which halfway between Salt Lake City and Provo, on the north shore of Utah Lake. The route travels west into the Great Basin or “west desert” of Utah. The 300K route makes a counter clock-wise loop through Eureka, past the junction to the Little Sahara Sand Dunes and over to Nephi. From there it turns north, before finally returning to Lehi, along the east side of Utah Lake.
Start & Finish Location Lehi Comfort Inn 125 S 850 E, Lehi, UT 84043. 300k riders please park at Maceys grocery store across the street.
Start time at 5:00 a.m. sharp for the 300k, 400k, and 600k. Check-in starts at 4:30 a.m., with brief announcements right beforehand. These brevets will be held rain or shine.

Backroads of the Great Basin 600 — RWGPS Link — 601km Brevet (updated 2025)
600.7 km (373.3 miles) with 11,608 feet of elevation gain.
ACP-sanctioned time limit: 40:00 hours or finish by 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, assuming a Friday 5:00 a.m. start. RUSA route # 2169.
Introduction These routes both start in Lehi, which is halfway between Salt Lake City and Provo, on the NW corner of Utah Lake. The route travels west into the Great Basin or “West Desert” of Utah. The route goes for 365 km (227 miles) and climbs 6,500 feet, before returning to the start for the overnight layover. The balance of the brevet makes a 235 km loop around the Oquirrh Mountains, which lie west of Salt Lake Valley. Because of the limited 24/7 services on the last third of this route, it may not work well for those desiring to do a “straight through the night” 600.

Why The Friday Start? (typically applies to 600km only) This is to allow cyclists to participate in such an event, without running into a sabbath day observance conflict. We are conforming with the logic of most of the ultrarunning events in Utah and Idaho, which also run on a Friday-Saturday schedule. This is to allow the majority population in Utah, which are of the Latter-day Saint faith, to not feel compelled to participate in outdoor events on Sunday.
Registration If possible, please register three days in advance so we have time to prepare the personalized brevet cards and cue sheets, but we always welcome walk-ins too!

Other Services Nearby, there is a Chevron open 24/7. Also, there are many other fast food stores and a grocery store with differing hours.
Cue Sheet A detailed cue sheet and brevet card will be provided at check in. Do NOT rely on the online cue sheet as it may not be accurate. If you wish to preview the cue sheet, a PDF or OpenOffice (similar to Excel) version can be e-mailed to you upon request, or one will be sent out automatically to everyone on the Google E-Mail Group, about a week before the event date.
Warning — The services are very spread out on this route. It is recommended to bring a 3rd water bottle or a hydration pack, especially between mile 110 and 155 (Oak City to Nephi). There is a lot of climbing and no services along this section.
- From the start to mile 47 (Eureka) there are no services, excepting a water spigot near mile marker 37 (.1 mile off route). The altitude gained in this section is 2,700 feet including the longest single climb of the brevet which is 1,900 feet.
- From mile 97 to 156 (between Delta and Nephi, 59 miles) there is no food, but there is water in Oak City. This section also has approx. 2,300-ft of climbing (in the heat of the afternoon). There is a city park at mile 121 in Oak City where you can top off your bottles however.
Support This will be a self-supported brevet. That means you will be getting your supply of fluids and extra food at convenience stores or cafes along the route. I will be riding with the group as a participant. Self-sufficiency is a must (bringing extra parts including a spare tire is recommended). There is no SAG, so you will be well advised to have a person to call in case you DNF and cannot ride home.
Departure Time on Saturday This 600K was deliberately set up so the first day is shorter than than some without a full 400km’s worth of riding. It “only” has 365 km of travel, which is my preferred split for doing a 600. This means that day two will be longer than your typical 200K with 235 km of riding. Consequently, you may want to leave fairly early (between 5 and 7 am) so you are not chasing cut off times.

If You Are Late Please call me so I can arrange to leave you a cue sheet and brevet card. You can start up to an hour after the official start time, but subsequent checkpoint cut-off times will remain the same, as if you had started with everyone else. If you know in advance, or wake up Friday morning and decide not to ride, please let me know so I won’t worry about you at the start.
If You Cannot Make It If you pre-registered, but cannot make it, if it is the day before or day of, please text me, as I may not be checking e-mailing while on the road.
