New Flash! 10 November 2010 — Approval was granted for the newest region of Randonneurs USA (RUSA) — the Utah, Salt Lake City region. We are going by the name of “Salt Lake Randonneurs” (SLR). I got the volunteer job as the Regional Brevet Administrator (RBA). Currently all info for SLR is parked on my blog here at RandoRichard.com, but I have registered SaltLakeRandos.org and plan to eventually move the site there.
We will initially offer two brevets for the early 2011 season: a 200km (125 miles) and a 300km (188 miles). The dates are April 16th for the 200K and May 14th for the 300K.
Membership in BCC is not be required to attend these brevets (contrary to my earlier post). These events are (were) sponsored by Bonneville Cycling Club in Salt Lake City (BCC) and sanctioned by RUSA.
For the 2011 season we will operate as a provisional status region. At the conclusion of the season the board members at RUSA will evaluate how the year went and then they may grant us full status for 2012. My goal is to eventually offer a full series of brevets: a 200K, 300K, 400K and a 600K. We have such wonderfully varied terrain in Utah, it is shame to not to offer brevets in different areas of the state. I have already designed a master plan for a full series, including a cool 400K loop in the Bear Lake/Cache Valley region of northern Utah/southern Idaho.
